Small Greek Plates, Big Taste


Friday afternoon, end of the week, beginning of the weekend, just a few doors from where I work, we decided to try out, Cava Mezze (Clarendon), an amazing restaurant in the top 100!

Eric met me and we were joined by Gemma, Peter and Nora for dinner, before we headed to The Birchmere to be joined by Karyn and Michael for a incredible evening listening to David Wilcox and Susan Werner.

A priceless evening...

But, let's start with the meal. Thanks to our waiter Jon and his awesome recommendations, starting with beverages -- I had raspberries, mint & lime. I may have to try creating that one at home!

Haloumi Sliders
Tomatoes / onions / tzatziki / evoo

Saganaki
Kefalograviera / lemon / brandy

Sparraggia
asparagus / lemon vinaigrette

Lamb Chops
2 baby chops / lemon / evoo / crisped potatoes

Scallops Risotto
U-10 Dry / mushroom / saffron

Spanakopita
Spinach / aged barrel feta / leeks / phyllo

Cava Mac 'n' Cheese
Papardelle pasta / Greek cheeses / arugula

...and then there was dessert!

Poached Pear -- (I can taste it just thinking about it.)

French Toast
Thick cut challah / honey / berries / cream
(This is reason enough to go back for brunch on Sunday and have this for a meal!)


A wonderful evening with big tastes in small dishes, with great friends and family, and conversation fit for a rocket scientist J

Great Korean BBQ, Great Friends

Wednesday night we went to Gamasot in Sprinfield, VA, and had our first Korean BBQ.

Since there is no Korean BBQ in the top 100, we added this to our list! And it was unbelievable.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... so here's to 9,000 words.

The Majestic, Alexandria

Tuesday seems like a good day to go to a matinee and out to eat! Just the two of us!

Looked for another local restaurant and decided on The Majestic on King Street in Old Town. Turned out to be a great evening, from the movie to dessert. We would do it all over again!


Our Dinner Choices

FRIED GREEN TOMATOES: read about this in all the reviews, and they were right!
- Asparagus, fried egg, black pepper Parmesan cream.

HOME-STYLE MEATLOAF: bacon, oh and meatloaf, how can you go wrong
- Green beans, bacon, whipped potatoes, pan gravy.

VEAL SWEETBREADS: unbelievable, the most delicious meat I have ever eaten in a restaurant!!!!
- White rice & peas, glazed baby carrots, kidney-shallot sherry sauce


CARROT CAKE: once again, not chocolate, so good, so very good
- Cream cheese frosting, pineapple, crème anglaise, walnuts

First Stop: Brabo Tasting Room


This was supposed to be the warm up day, go easy, lunch, go local...

Instead it was an incredible lunch experience at BRABO Tasting Room!!

We really want this journey to be more than just about good food and it was! It was so special to share this first day out with Lauren, thanks for joining us!

I did some research and every review I read said GET THE MUSSELS!!

So glad we did. Both Eric and I agreed they were THE BEST MUSSELS we have ever had!

Some how we managed to stray from our usual chocolate dessert to a much more seasonal, yummy, refreshing...

Don't worry it was all gone... it was the perfect ending for our first meal!
